Cheap Putter Head Shapes
There are three different head shapes for putters. Blade putters are the oldest styles of putters and have a simple and flat look with a traditional style. They look like hockey sticks and have a straight shaft with a toe-side weight.
Mallet style putters are fatter in size and have a large head. Their weight distribution is away from the club’s face giving them a deeper center of gravity. Heel-toe weighted putters are also called Peripheral-weighted putters. They have added weight in the heel and toe portions, which means more forgiveness when you hit a strike.
Shaft placement
There are three kinds of shaft placements for putters. The off-set shaft features a hosel that bends backward to move the bottom of the shaft ahead. It allows the proper distribution of force upon impact. The heel shaft does not use a bent hosel and is suitable for simple strokes. The shaft attaches directly to the heel side of the club. The Center shaft attaches directly in the middle. The end of the putter is nearest to the golfer when they strike.
Club-faced design
There are three face designs for putters. The smooth-faced putter has, as the name suggests, a smooth face on the club. They are usually made from materials like steel, aluminum, titanium, zinc, and copper. They give a controlled feel off the face upon impact. In an insert-faced Putter, metals are the main components to make these putters.
The main difference is that the putter’s heel and toe have more weight distribution, which offers more forgiveness. In groove-faced putter, synthetic rubber is the main component. During the moment of contact, you’ll get a softer feel for the ball with this type.
Shaft length
There are four types of shaft lengths in Putters. The first is traditional length putters with a range of 32-36 inches. It acts as an extension of your arms and allows them to hang down and grip the shaft. Counterbalance putters range from 36-38 inches. They are longer for you to keep your hands for a more stable stroke.
Belly putters range from 41-46 inches, and the hands and belly of the golfer become anchors for added weight. You can practice it only for leisure because it is now recently banned by the R&A and USGA. Long putters range from 48-52 inches. Its popular name is ‘broom handle’ putter. Along with your belly and hands, these putters are rested on your chest and even the chin. It has a complete change in grip and is also a challenging skill to master.
Grip
Golf rules specify for putter grips to have a flat edge. Besides that, the golfer may change the grip for thickness, shape, weight, length, and materials. Usually, there are four types of putter grip styles. A soft grip putter will provide more feedback because it increases the feel and rhythm upon impact, while a firm grip putter absorbs the impact of the stroke, which offers more feedback.
Long grip putters allow you to re-distribute the weight of the putter. It also gives you more options where you want to hold the club. Thick grip putters eliminate the wrist movement upon impact. It also reduces the impact of the fingers, thus creating a rocking momentum with the shoulders.
